The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Carter’s, Inc., of Atlanta, Georgia, are advising parents and caregivers that they have received reports that a small percentage of babies and infants have developed rashes on the upper back after wearing Carter’s clothing with heat-transferred, or “tag-less,” labels.
This advisory applies to Carter’s Fall 2007 product line. The Fall 2007 line utilizes a label on the inside back of the garment that has a raised surface with a solid, rather than a stenciled, background. This advisory does not apply to previous and current product lines, which utilize labels with stenciled backgrounds.
The garments, which were made in various countries, were sold at Carter’s own retail stores and at department and national chain stores.
If your child develops a rash on the upper back after wearing garments that have a “tag-less” label with a solid background, you should stop using these garments. If the rash persists or worsens, you should contact your pediatrician. For additional information, visit Carter’s website at http://www.carters.com/corporate/tagless_message.aspx, contact Carter’s toll free at 1-888-282-4674 or by email at contactus@carters.com

Smarty Pants Product of the Week - Baby B'Air Flight Vest

Product
Baby B'Air Flight Vest
Smarty Pants Review
Just about a year ago we took an adventure to visit in laws and friends in NY. My 13 month old at the time traveled on my lap for the 3 hour flight. She was, and very much still is, a squirmy little thing. It was a challenge to get her to chill on my lap. I held her tight, realizing that I was essentially her seat belt - if I only had a Baby B'Air Flight Vest!

The Baby B'Air Flight Vest provides the exact security and safety every infant and toddler deserves! The munchkin wears it just like a vest. Straps secure the vest to the little one and then mom's seat belt slides through a loop in the back. As soon as mom has her own seat belt secure, the little one is secure! Imagine the comfort of knowing that no matter what the turbulence, your precious cargo is safe with you!
Why is it a Smarty Pants of Product? Providing security and safety to a child is one of the most important responsibility of a parent. Baby B'Air Flight Vest does just that for air travel.

Piece of the Week - Cookie Cutters

Week #3 Piece of the Week!
Challenge: Cookie Cutters
I've recently bought some cookie cutters at the dollar store. They are simple, no frills, in the shape of a butterfly, heart, flower, star and 2 other items that I can't figure out (that's probably why they are only $1!) I've come up with one non-traditional way of using (reusing) the cutters...to cut out sandwiches! Here's my daughter's heart ham sandwich! My daughter has been quite stubborn to eat a "regular" sandwich but has no problem when it is shaped like a heart, flower...

So, SMART MAMAs, what other ways can we reuse cookie cutters??? Share your best ideas!

Week #2 Results
Challenge - Crystal Light Container
Best Idea: pencil/pen holder/ crayons art stuff etc...cut a slit in the top and make it a bank by the stilwells

The sides of the convertible crib are made of a mesh that expands, creating a gap between the mattress and the side through which an infant can slip. This poses suffocation and entrapment hazards for young children.CPSC is aware of the death of a 5-month-old child on August 31, 2008 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Infant Death Prompts Recall To Repair 600,000 Drop Side Cribs By Delta Enterprise; Spring Peg Failure Can Cause Entrapment and Suffocation Hazards
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Delta Enterprise Corp., of New York, N.Y., is announcing the voluntary recall today of about 600,000 drop side cribs. The crib's drop side can detach when the spring peg is not engaged, which can cause an entrapment and suffocation risk to infants and toddlers. If the spring pegs in the base of each leg of the crib are pushed back into the lower track, the pegs can become nonfunctional. This can cause the drop side to detach from the crib and create a gap that can entrap an infant or toddler.CPSC staff is aware of a death of an 8-month-old child who suffocated when the drop side of his crib detached. CPSC is also aware of one child entrapment and one incident in which the drop side detached due to a disengaged spring peg.The recall involves all Delta drop side cribs manufactured prior to 2006 that use "Crib Trigger Lock with Spring Peg" drop side hardware design. The recalled model numbers and country of origin include: 4340, 4343, 4520, 4600, 4620, 4624, 4625, 4629, 4660, 4665, 4720, 4750, 4751, 4850, 4855, 4857, 4880, 4920, 4925-2, 4925-2B, 4925-6, 4980, and 8605. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Delta Enterprise Corp., of New York, New York., is announcing the voluntary recall to replace missing safety pegs involving 985,000 drop side cribs. Failure to use or install safety pegs can cause an entrapment and suffocation risk to infants and toddlers. When the safety pegs in the base of each leg of the crib are missing from the lower track, the crib locks can disengage and detach if lowered below the peg hole, creating a hazardous gap. This gap can lead to the entrapment and suffocation of an infant or toddler.CPSC staff is aware of a death of an 8-month-old child who became entrapped and suffocated when the drop side of the crib detached in a reassembled crib where the safety pegs were not installed. CPSC is also aware of two entrapments and nine disengagement incidents in cribs where the safety pegs were missing. The recall involves all Delta cribs manufactured in Taiwan or Indonesia, with the "Crib Trigger Lock with Safety Peg" drop side hardware design. Tackle It Tuesday - The Plastic Container Mess

Here's another every six weeks or so tackle...the container cabinet!!! First off, have you noticed that plastic container lids are like socks in the dryer...the randomly disappear and seem to get eaten up by something!!!???

As a "green" smart mama, I try to reuse any plastic container that I "receive" from frozen dinners to mushroom trays. These tend to be the most difficult to store since they don't necessarily "stack up" with the other store bought ones. Anyway, here's my tackle...be a SMART MAMA and follow suit!

Smarty Pants Product of the Week - PumpEase Petite

Product
PumpEase Petite
Smarty Pants Review
Nearly 2 years ago you would find me every few hours up in my room with my double breast pump. My little munchkin never got a hand of how to latch, so instead I would pump.

During my "pumping" times, I would try to figure out a way, any way, to have my pumps stay put and be hands free. I tried everything. I would place pillows on my lap, or use a certain bra that with its elastic could sort of, in a way, could hold the pumps. My creative ways would often work but rarely for too long or with much comfort.

I have recently learned of a FANTASTIC product that I so wished was available a few years ago. Snugabell Mom & Baby Gear has created the PumpEase, a hands-free pumping support. It is EXACTLY what I needed!!! You wear it like a strapless bra above your nursing bra. It has openings to hold the pump(s) in place. When pumping, you often feel captive to the pump, but thankfully PumpEase will provide freedom by giving you your hands back to enjoy a magazine or flip through the TV.

I strongly encourage Smart "Pumping" Mamas, to consider a product like this!

Why is it a Smarty Pants Product?
I strongly support breastfeeding/pumping for a newborn and PumpEase makes that special time for your munchkin even better by making it easier for you.
