Smarty Pants Product of the Week - Loveable Labels!

Product
Loveable Labels

Smarty Pants Review
Sippy cups, shoes, toys and more...my daughter has it and can easily lose it (especially if she's anything like her mom or dad!) I need an efficient, Smart Mama way of labeling her things, that way at a playgroup with a half a dozen Diego cups, I'll know which one is hers!

Over the last few weeks I have labeled her cups and toys with Loveable Labels. These sticker labels adhere to her things and stay there no matter what! The picture to the right shows my munchkin's favorite Dora the Explorer cup. This cup, with the purple Loveable Label sticker, gets washed numerous times a day and a few times through the dishwasher each week. The Loveable Label hasn't changed a bit in appearance or adherence since the day I first put it on! Amazing! (FYI - in the past I had used permanent marker to mark her cups and as many of you know, the markings aren't so permanent and disappeared in the dishwasher!) Anyway, Loveable Labels receive HUGE thumbs up as a Smarty Pants Product!

Why is it a Smart Mama Product?
It works. It's affordable. It's needed!

Our Busy Calendar!

I'm heading to Storytime at the local public library today with the munchkin. I'm super excited!

We typically spend our days doing great things with our playgroup - parks, zoo, arts and crafts, music class, splash and plays. We keep a very busy social calendar!!!

What kinds of activities do you do with your children? For those of you with older children, what activities do you believe are very important for moms to take the time to do with their little ones?

Smiles,
Caroline

Smart Mama Move - Suite with Food!

Traveling with the Munchkin!!!

This past weekend we had a fantastic time vacationing on the west coast of Florida, in Naples. We stayed at The Edgewater Hotel in a 1 bedroom suite. It was fantastic. You truly begin to value the advantage of a suite when you are no longer traveling with just the hubby. The suite, beyond the roominess, king size bed, balcony, & dining room table...had a full size fridge, toaster, enormous sink and cupboards. It was ready for my haul of Cheerios, graham crackers, milk, fruit, cheese, bread, turkey breast...you name it!

So, my Smart Mama Move was packing lots of munchkin food, and even mommy/daddy food, for our suite. We saved time and money by enjoying toasted english muffins and Cheerios in our room for breakfast and homemade turkey sandwiches poolside for lunch!

PS - Turndown service was provided every night when they even cleaned the dishes!!!

Smarty Pants Product of the Week - List Caddy

Product
List Caddy
Smarty Pants Review
As many of my readers know, I am a Grocery Game junkie! I head to 2 supermarkets and CVS each week with the Grocery Game list in hand and coupons in my pocket. The pre-selected coupons go in a sandwich baggie in my pocket and the list gets shoved in my purse. During my time at the store, I am constantly pulling the list out of the bag and putting it back in - many times even misplacing it. I had the chance to try out the List Caddy during my most recent trip to Publix while vacationing in Naples. I attached, very easily, the caddy to the handlebar of the cart and placed my infamous list on it. It worked PERFECTLY! I was able to zoom around the store, without once stopping to find my list. Much to my always skeptical husband's surprise, the caddy held the list straight up the entire time!

Why is it a Smart Mama Product?
If something can make a mom's life easier, it is certainly under consideration as a Smarty Pants Product of the Week. The List Caddy, without a doubt, simplified my shopping experience. It also saved me time. I lost the "searching for the list" time and gained a little more "playing with my munchkin" time because of the List Caddy! Additionally, the caddy is magnetic. A mom can make or print out her list, attach it to the caddy and then put it on fridge until she's ready to head to the store!

Smarty Pants Product of the Week - Street Science Notebooks

Product
Street Science notebooks
Smarty Pants Review
We've all had the standard black and white composition book - it works, but isn't too chic! Street Science has designed a great line of notebooks, both spiral and bounded, for students of all ages. Moms, your tween and teens deserve notebooks designed with their interests in mind and Street Science has created just that!

The spiral 1 subject notebook has 70 perforated sheets with 2 pockets at the beginning. I love the double sided pocket folder! The composition book has 100 sheets and a softer cover than the typical composition book.

To put them to the real Smarty Pants Mama test, I asked a teenage neighbor to come over and give me her honest opinion. She LOVED them, especially the Rope Chain design!

Why is it a Smart Mama Product?
Promoting education in a fun, hip way!

Thursday Thirteen - Before the summer lets out...

This summer has certainly been chock full of activities and events, and my 'to-do' has gotten a little smaller. However, there are still a number of things that I, as a Smart Mama, must get done before the end of August!
  1. Weed through the closet and put together bags of old clothes to give to the church.
  2. Organize my jewelry box...I spent more than a half hour last week untangling a necklace because it was stored in such a sloppy manner.
  3. Print out summer photos.
  4. Block out the week vacation for next summer.
  5. Organize closet in guest room - there is so much junk in there!
  6. Practice making bows for the munchkin.
  7. Polish my silver jewelry and frames.
  8. Buy a new coffee machine.
  9. Figure out a way to organize the munchkin's craft materials (paper, crayons...).
  10. Go to Jungle Island at least one more time to make the annual pass worth it.
  11. Organize my coupon binder - it's a mess again!
  12. Drink at least 12 glasses of water EVERY DAY!
  13. Be able to walk down the stairs without having to hold onto the railing. (I had major knee surgery in February that I am still rehabing from.)

Tackle It Tuesday - Posting on Ebay!

As a somewhat new SAHM I try to find ways to help bring in some $$$ to help pay for groceries and such. When eBay first launched a number of years ago, I was one of the first sellers. I have continued to sell, off and on, since then. I've really never made huge amounts of money, just extra petty cash to have around. Now with my new job title, SAHM, I'm using eBay to pay my salary! I'm averaging anywhere between a few dollars to over $100 each week. My inventory ranges from items I've bought but never used, things my mom wants to get rid of (old & new), things purchased at garage sales, and items from a former beauty consultant job I had.
If you're interested in looking at my "not that exciting" current sales go to:

Today during nap time, I finally posted a ton of items that had been accumulating dust in my guest room. Now, hopefully they will pay for next week's groceries!

Product
Crayola Beginnings TaDoodles BUV
Smarty Pants Review
Wheels...my daughter loves them!! Crayons....another favorite! Put the two of them together and you get one HAPPY little munchkin!!! Crayola has created what I call a "little bus" for holding the different First Marks products in the Crayola Beginnings TaDoodles line. It's great! The Beginnings Utility Vehicle (B.U.V) is the SUV for the TaDoodles products. My munchkin gladly places her crayons in the BUV and zooms them across the playroom. For me, the smart mama in the house, I just love that there is a perfect organized place to hold her Crayola TaDoodles products!!
Why is it a Smart Mama Product?
Fun for the munchkin and organized for the mom!

Recall Wednesday - Cribs, bike pedals, halogen work light, & brad nailer!

5 product recalls have been issued over the last week. The information below comes directly from the CSPC email listsrv notifications I received. Please check your homes for these items.

Name of Product: Cribs

Hazard: The cribs fail to meet the federal safety standards. The distance between the mattress support bracket in the lowest position and the top of the side rail in the highest position is less than the required 26 inches, posing a fall hazard to children who climb over the railing.
Description: The recall includes the following wooden full-size cribs: "Enchantment" (model #210), "Hush a Bye" (model #215), "Once upon a time" (model #320) and "Rock a bye" (model #1900-350). Only date codes from 0306 through 0308 are included in this recall. "Mother Hubbard's Cupboards", the model number and date code are printed on a label located on the bottom inside of the right side.
Sold at: Juvenile product stores from March 2006 through March 2008 for between $500 and $650.

Name of Product: Davenport Cribs
Hazard: The cribs fail to meet the federal safety standards for cribs. The cribs have a two mattress support system. The secondary mattress support, used for the lowest position, does not meet the full 26 inch minimum height in its lowest position, allowing children inside to crawl over the railing, posing a fall hazard.
Description: The recall includes Davenport crib models that begin with the model numbers 273-xxxx-xxxx and have manufacture dates on or before August 2007 printed on a label located on the right side of the lower inner panel of the crib. The recalled cribs have two mattress support systems-a metal one and a wooden one. Newer Davenport cribs with model numbers beginning with 244-xxxx-xxxx that have one mattress support are not included in the recall.
Sold at: Specialty juvenile product stores nationwide from December 2006 through September 2007 for between $600 and $800.

Name of Product: DEWALT DC608 Cordless Brad Nailers
Hazard: The nailer can operate when the lock-off (safety) is in the locked position. Also, the nailer can operate when the trigger is not pulled and the contact trip is depressed. The unexpected ejection of a nail poses a serious injury hazard to consumers.
Description: This recall involves the DEWALT DC608 18 Volt Cordless 2" 18 Gauge Straight Brad Nailer with date codes 200728 through 200821. "DC608" is located on the right side of the magazine. The date code can be found on the underside of the handle, once the battery pack is removed. Units stamped with an "M" following the date code are not included in this recall.
Sold at: Wholesale distributors and retailers from October 2007 through May 2008 for about $280.

Description: The halogen work lights are 500 watts. Model number 30858 is included in this recall. The lamp measures 7 inches wide x 5 ½ inches high and is mounted on a yellow frame. "UL Listed E163392" and "Work Light 8F95" is printed on a sticker on the back. The model number is printed on the light's packaging.
Sold at: Harbor Freight Tools stores nationwide, Harbor Freight Tools' catalogs, and at http://www.harborfreight.com/ from February 2006 through March 2008 for about $10.

The date code for the KéO HM is on the bottom of the pedal, with the letters A through L corresponding to the month, and the numbers 4 and 5 indicating 2004 or 2005.
